Omaha is a variation on the familiar Texas Hold'em game. However, in Omaha , players are dealt four hole cards face down instead of two. The objective is to combine no more or less than two hole cards with three community cards to create the best five-card hand.
As in Texas Hold'em, the two players to the left of the dealer post the small and large blinds (forced bets) respectively. When four cards have been dealt face down to each live player, the action progresses with the player to the left of the large blind, and continue in a clockwise rotation.
- In Omaha Hi, players receive four down cards as their personal hand (hole cards), after which there is a round of betting.
- Three board cards are turned simultaneously (called the "flop") and another round of betting occurs.
- The next two board cards are turned one at a time, with a round of betting after each card.
- At the showdown of a hand, a player must use no more or less than two hole cards in combination with three of the cards on the board (community cards) to create the best five-card hand.
- Other than number of hole cards (two) combined with the number of community cards (three), the same rules for Hold'em apply to Omaha.
